On July 27, 1981 Bill Gates made a purchase by a few thousand dollars that eventually would make him the richest man in the world.

Today 30 years ago Microsoft bought the rights of an operating system that later marketed under the name MS-DOS. After the computers were installed in IBM PCs in the media world and the rest is history. And there’s more.

In the spring of 1981, the company Seattle Computer Products had an operating system called 86-DOS (aka QDOS) that caught the attention of the young Bill Gates and his buddy Paul Allen.
